Rules since 2026
How a barber qualification is verified in Slovakia.
In Slovakia, barbering falls under the regulated craft trade of men’s, women’s and children’s hairdressing (Trade Licensing Act No. 455/1991). Since 1 January 2026, only the new system under the Adult Education Act No. 292/2024 applies: the qualification Barbier/Barbierka is verified by Aliancia sektorových rád (the Alliance of Sector Councils), the authorised institution that issues the certificate of professional qualification. An applicant submits an application with a portfolio; according to the Alliance’s current guidance, it includes proof of education and either a certificate from an accredited educational programme or proof of practice in the field. Direct registration for an exam is not possible: a committee first assesses the portfolio and may recognise the qualification without an exam, recognise it in part, or require a full exam with a theoretical and a practical part. Buď majster prepares students for this process, but it cannot guarantee admission to the exam, its result or a trade licence – these decisions rest solely with the Alliance and its committee.
Information checked on 12 October 2026. For the current rules and fees, see the official website of the Alliance: alianciasr.sk. A step-by-step guide in Slovak: Ako sa stať barberom.
